Meet The Maker
Founder & Maker – Mary-Lyn (ML)
Welcome to Salt Water Junkie!
Hi, my name is Mary-Lyn (ML for short). My journey began with a simple desire to work from home — which I’m still working on! 🙂
I’ve always felt a pull toward my artistic side and wanted to create something with my hands. About a year ago, I made beeswax wraps for my family as Christmas gifts and completely fell in love with the process.
That curiosity grew into a business making and selling 100% cotton beeswax food wraps, created with quality ingredients sourced locally within our province or elsewhere in Canada.
My wraps are made with organic jojoba oil, beeswax, and pine rosin. A love for nature and sustainability inspired me to expand my offerings to include beautiful natural gemstone bracelets, and since then, lip chap, bowl & board butter, body butter, dish soap, hand & body soap as well as Shampoo & Conditioner bars.
Living a life committed to growing and harvesting from our own garden, I understand the importance of preserving nature while learning how to live alongside it. I believe our contribution to this planet should have more pluses than minuses.
This commitment is what drove me to develop my beeswax food wraps — thoughtfully designed to help reduce plastic waste while keeping food fresh and flavourful. I believe small changes can make a big impact, and these products reflect that philosophy. I use a lot of beeswax and it got me thinking and expanding in our own life being as self sustaining as possible to create soap with beeswax, and so much more. I am very excited to share this journey with you and help you eliminate toxic chemicals and single use plastic in your home.
I also want to explain the name Salt Water Junkie, because it may not seem connected to beeswax wraps or any of the other items I make at first — but it truly is.
My dad was born and raised on the East Coast, in New Brunswick. I still have many friends and family there. He passed away a few years ago, around the same time I was feeling unsettled in my career path.
I have a deep love for the ocean — traveling whenever possible to enjoy the salt, sand, and sea air — so the name Salt Water Junkie just felt right.
Beeswax wraps aren’t just food wraps. They help cut down on single-use plastic in a big way, which ultimately helps protect our oceans, environment, and natural resources. Shampoo & Conditioner bars are zero waste, no plastic bottles to ditch ones your done and the same goes with all of our soaps.
Thank you for reading and supporting a business that started as a dream — and will hopefully one day become my full-time reality.
